Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world with an area of 2,724,900 square kilometers, but only 65th in the population with about 6.5 people per km. The population is estimated at 17,670,900, according to an official estimate of 2015. A large part of the country’s territory is made up of steppes. The capital of the country is Astana. The official languages of the country are Kazakh (a Turkish) and Russian. It borders with the People’s Republic of China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
Astana is the second largest city after Almaty which is the capital of the state since 1997. It is a magnificent architectural city in the eastern part of the country, in the Asian steppe. It is nothing but the realization of the ambitious goals of Kazakhstan President Narsulan Nazarbayev. Astana is impressive, futuristic and occult. It is no coincidence that in 1999 she won the “City of the World” award. The crown of the city is the Palace for Peace and Harmony. It is a huge pyramid built on an artificial hill in designs by British Sir Norman Foster. The Bayterek Tower is a landmark building for Astana. The legend says that the tower represents a poplar, where the magic bird Samruk generates his egg. In the sphere, at the top of Bayterek, there is a footprint of the country’s president Nursultan Nazarbayev. If you prefer religious attractions, do not miss to visit the Beit Rachel-Habbad Lyubavich Synagogue and the Nur-Astana Main Mosque (mosque). Both buildings are somewhat unusual in relation to the architectural tradition of the East and their interior decoration is also wonderful.
