Boston is located in the northeastern US states, relatively close to the Canada border (about 350 km away). It is also 350 km away from New York . It is the capital city of Massachusetts and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean as it is built in a natural harbor. Boston is one of the oldest cities in the US and has a population of about 650,000, while its metropolitan area reaches 4.5 million people.
The city of Boston was founded in 1630 by Puritan colonists from England on the Shawmut Peninsula. During the American Revolution against the English in the 18th century, Boston was the place where several important events that influenced the evolution of the revolution, such as Boston Massacre, events with tea loads in the harbor, and the siege of the city . After liberation, Boston became one of the largest ports and manufacturing center in the US, while it was built in this first US subway system in 1897. Today it attracts over 20 million tourists due to its rich history. Many colleges and universities in the city have turned it into an international higher education center. Who does not know the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Harvard Universities.
The largest park in the city is Boston Common, which has nothing to jealous of other large US parks (such as New York’s Central Park). In the park there are pedestrian walkways, statues and monuments, fountains, small ponds and large lawns where you will see many sitting and lying down. The best place is probably the largest pond in the west of the park, where you can take a swim with a swan-shaped boat or simply relax and admire the lush landscape with skyscrapers in the background over the lake’s bridge.
There are several scattered attractions, the most important of which are: 1) The Old State House, built in 1713, functioned as a government building and is today the oldest building in Boston. Located in the center, at the beginning of Washington Street. 2) The Government Center, which is located in the center of the city (is actually the main square) and is surrounded by modern government buildings such as the City Hall. 3) The old frigate U.S.S. Constitution, located in the north of the city, in the Historical Park area. Apart from the old sailboat there are other warships there as well as a small museum with the history of the frigate. To get there you will need a taxi.
In addition to the city’s monuments and attractions, it would be a good idea to spend some time to see the very famous universities, MIT and Harvard. You can reach them very easily with the red metro line. For MIT University, get off at Kendall / MIT Station and Harvard University in the queue. At MIT, apart from the majestic buildings and the green parks, you can admire the Stata Center complex of buildings and the music palace. At Harvard do not miss the central library and other old buildings.
